BIOGRAPHY

Past. Present. Future.

First and foremost, UK based Robert Meyer is a composer, producer and classical trained pianist. After developing a bug for music at an early age, Robert eventually went on to formally study music at the the Purcell School of Music and later at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. After spending years performing solo piano recitals and playing the guitar in various bands, it was an odd twist of fate that turned him onto electronic music and now, years later, he is actively involved in the underground electronic music scene as a live performer and composer.

Influenced by everything from classical music and film score to experimental electronic music, he performed live in the duo Maker + Meyer for several years (alongside fellow musician Jon Daou). Highlights have included a live set at Adam Beyer’s Drumcode warehouse party in 2010 and DJ sets at Fabric, Corsica Studios, EGG and Cable. As a long-standing resident for London parties VOID and Ultraplay, Rob has gained a vast amount of experience as a DJ, having played monthly slots at Cafe 1001 for four years running.

Always incorporating his knowledge of harmony, texture and timbre from classical music into his electronic efforts, Robert’s formal training is what stands him apart from many of his contemporaries. Away from the dance-floor, he composes music for moving image, and has worked on a number of films, often concentrating on combining the classical element - orchestral and acoustic instruments – with dubbed out electronic landscapes.

After a move to Lithuania in 2015, Robert started performing on the live scene as part of a duo that was formed by Linas Ftee and Robert under the alias 'Lakeside Culture'. Together, they performed at several festivals and venues including Supynes Festival, Minimal Mondays and even as far as Helsinki, Finland.

In 2018, he co-composed his first feature length film score with Linas Ftee for the film "Gražinti Nepriklausomybę", directed by Saulius Baradinskas. Later, Robert went on to work on the award winning short film also by Saulius Baradinskas "Golden Minutes" and later on the film "Techno, Mama" (forthcoming in Autumn 2021).

In 2021, Robert started his own record label named after the Lithuanian word for nothing... 'nieko'. He is now running the label alongside co-owner Mark Splinter, with successful early releases from Hungarian composer Richard Zalai and talented Lithuanian producer artkelle. Robert intends to run the label as a platform to showcase music that he strongly believes in, and as a shared home for visionary music that has been crafted with a similar ethos and outlook as his own works.

Far more than just another producer, Robert Meyer is a rare thing in the modern age: someone with a deep understanding of musical form, structure and arrangement, and someone with the ability to implement that into a wide array of sonic styles and settings.
